Creating a Productive Home Office Space While Managing Kids

Hey there mama! 👋

If you’ve been around this corner of the internet for a while, you’ll know I’m ALL about that work-from-home mom life. I chose to be an SEO specialist because the salary and growth opportunities are attractive, but also because it offers the flexibility to work around my family’s schedule.

We’ve all heard about it.

We’ve all tried to make it work.

We’ve all had good days and… let’s be real… some really crazy days too.

Why I love working from home

What I’ve learned as a work-from-home mom is that…

What works for another mom doesn’t always work for YOU.

And don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I think office jobs are bad.

Not at all.

Working from home has been a dream come true for me—a chance to build a career without sacrificing precious moments with my family.

My kitchen office (yep, you read that right!)

When most moms set up a home office, they try to find the quietest spot in the house.

But me? I work right in my KITCHEN! 🍳💻

Why the kitchen? It’s simple: the kitchen is where everything happens in our home. Here’s why it works so well for me:

  • It’s in the middle of everything: The kitchen is close to all the action. I can stir the pasta sauce while sending an email, or do my laundry during a quick work break.
  • I can watch my kids: My little ones play in the living room, and I have a baby monitor camera set up. I can see what they’re doing while I work.
  • I can do two things at once: In the kitchen, I can work on my computer while keeping an ear out for my kids. When I take a break, I can give them quick hugs or help with a toy.

Can you relate? Tell me in the comments if you do this too or if I’m just the weird kitchen-working mom.

My little helpers (aka my kids!)

I have three amazing kiddos: my baby is 4, my middle one is 6, and my big kid is 13. My oldest—my “kuya thirdy”—is my special helper.

He watches his little siblings when I really need to focus. Having Kuya thirdy who helps out is such a blessing for a working mom like me!

My morning routine

I wake up before the kids do. The house is still quiet. This is MY time to read book, do journals, check emails, look at my work stuff, or just plan my day without anyone asking for snacks.

These early morning hours let me get a head start before the chaos begins.

And I don’t want to feel sad.

I don’t want to use crying face emojis.

No way, not happening. Good vibes only, mama! ✨

Feelings first (not just to-do lists!)

I think the best thing we can do as moms is to stop putting so much pressure on ourselves with big work goals and instead set simple intentions.

Just simple feelings we want to have.

And then doing little things that match those feelings.

Every morning, I ask myself:

How do I want to feel today as a working mom?

That’s what I focus on – my feelings for the day.

I pick a word or feeling after some quick journal time, and I think about how I can feel more of this good stuff during my day.

It’s not about doing hard, scary things, it’s about doing small mom steps that add up.

Why my kitchen office works so well

The best part about working from home is how my mom life and work life can mix together. Unlike having to be at an office job from 9-to-5, my SEO work lets me be flexible.

Here’s what makes me happy about this setup:

I control my time: As an SEO mom, I can work when it fits around my family. Sometimes that’s during nap time, sometimes it’s after bedtime.

I can watch my kids while working: With my baby camera in the living room, I can see what my kids are doing. I can quickly help if someone needs me or sneak in a cuddle during a work break.

I can do all the things: Working in the kitchen means I can stir the soup while on a call or throw in laundry between emails. I feel like supermom handling both work and home stuff!

Intentions = Mom Freedom 🦋

Setting intentions gives you more breathing room, mama!

When you’re not stressed about checking off a giant to-do list, you make space to just be the mom you want to be and still get your work done!

The hard parts (because yes, there ARE some tough moments!)

Let’s be real – working from home with kids isn’t always easy. Some days the kids are extra loud, or your work deadline comes right when someone spills juice everywhere.

Life with kids is messy and unpredictable.

But that’s what makes it beautiful too. ✨

Here’s how I handle the tough stuff:

Making Clear Mom/Work Times

Even though I work in the kitchen, I tell my kids “Mama is working now” or “Mama is in mom mode now.” This helps me switch between my two jobs more easily.

Sticking to a Kid-Friendly Schedule

Having a regular daily plan helps everyone. My kids know when it’s quiet time and when it’s okay to be louder. This routine gives them security and gives me some focused work blocks.

Using Mom-Tech Smartly

My baby monitor camera is a lifesaver! I can keep working but still see what the kids are up to in the other room.

Taking Mama Breaks

It’s so easy to forget about yourself when you’re taking care of kids AND work. But I’ve learned that even 5 minutes of me-time makes me a better mom and worker.

Come join me, mama!

I’m inviting you to try setting simple intentions for your work-from-home mom life, and forget about having that “perfect” office setup – at least for now.

What really matters is finding a way to be both mom and worker that doesn’t drain you completely. Find what works for YOUR family in a way that feels good and doesn’t stress you out.

Remember, with some creative thinking and flexibility, you can be both a good mom AND good at your job at the same time.

This is me signing off.

Your work-from-home mom friend.

Love you bye! 💕
